Bonga National High School traces its roots back to June 29, 1995, when it was officially established in line with Executive Order No. 189, series of 1989. Its creation was made possible through Republic Act 6655, having met all the criteria required for newly nationalized high schools.
The school’s founding was spearheaded by the Bonga Barangay Council, under the leadership of then-Punong Barangay Francisco B. Llaneta, following a petition from surrounding barangays. It began modestly, with just 78 pioneering students guided by three dedicated teachers: Mrs. Amy Obligacion, Mrs. Analyn Millete, and Ms. Eden B. Asiado. From these humble beginnings, Bonga National High School steadily grew, both in student population and faculty. By the end of School Year 2024–2025, enrollment had surged to 768 students, supported by a committed team of 50 teachers.
Since 1995, the school has been guided by 10 school principals and 1 assistant principal, each contributing to its development. At present, Mr. Nilo L. Mayor serves as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Principal, continuing the legacy of dedicated leadership.
Before 2016, all classes were held at School Site No. 1, situated along the National Highway. This location originally served as an extension of Upper Bonga Elementary School. With the implementation of the Senior High School program and the corresponding rise in classroom demand, a second and larger site—School Site No. 2—was established approximately 500 meters away. This new site was made possible through the generous support of the community: half of the land was donated by the Barangay Council, and the other half by Mrs. Benita A. Calleja.
